Egypt’s Rights Council Supports El-Sisi’s Decision to Reassess Draft Law

Cairo: Egypt's National Council for Human Rights has expressed approval of President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi's recent decision to return a draft criminal procedure law to parliament for further review. This move comes amidst concerns about several articles within the proposed legislation.According to State Information Service Egypt, the council highlighted that this decision demonstrates respect for the constitution and international human rights obligations. The council plans to provide detailed recommendations to ensure that the revised law aligns with both constitutional and human rights standards.The Egyptian parliament is scheduled to reconvene on October 1st, where Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly is expected to present a statement on the proposed revisions. Previously, President El-Sisi submitted formal objections under Article 123 of the constitution, advocating for a balanced legal framework that protects individual freedoms while maintaining justice.
