FM: Israeli Strike ‘Disgraceful’ and a ‘Dangerous Precedent’

Cairo: Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty delivered on Thursday, 11/9/2025, a message of solidarity from President Abdel-Fattah El-Sisi to Qatari Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani during a visit to Doha following the Israeli strike on the Qatari capital.

According to State Information Service Egypt, Abdelatty conveyed El-Sisi's greetings to Sheikh Tamim, affirming Egypt's full support for Qatar's leadership, government, and people in such a 'critical moment.'

Egypt condemns the strike as a 'blatant violation' of Qatar's sovereignty and a 'serious breach' of international law and the UN Charter, Abdelatty said. He also described the attack as a dangerous precedent, not only against Qatar but also against collective Arab security, adding that 'any harm to Qatar's security is a direct infringement on Arab national security.'

He offered condolences to the emir of Qatar for those killed in the assault, calling the strike 'disgraceful.' For his part, Sheikh Tamim thanked President El-Sisi for his call during the crisis and praised Egypt's supportive stance, saying the visit by Abdelatty highlighted the close ties between the two countries. Both sides reaffirmed their commitment to continued coordination in the face of regional challenges.

The attack, the first known Israeli strike on Qatari soil, killed at least six people, including a Qatari security officer and Humam Al-Hayya, the son of senior Hamas figure Khalil Al-Hayya. On Tuesday, Egypt condemned in the strongest terms the Israeli airstrike on Doha as a violation of international law and a direct threat to Arab security. President El-Sisi also called Sheikh Tamim to express condolences and reaffirm Egypt's solidarity with Qatar.

Qatar denounced the strike as a 'cowardly assault' and accused Israel of sabotaging mediation efforts. Saudi Arabia, the UAE, Oman, and other Gulf states expressed solidarity with Qatar, warning that the strike set a dangerous precedent. The Arab League and the Gulf Cooperation Council also condemned the attack as a direct threat to Arab security.

Turkey's President Recep Tayyip Erdogan called the strike 'state terrorism,' while China warned it violated sovereignty and risked escalation. Russia described it as a 'gross violation' of the UN Charter and a threat to regional stability. The UN secretary-general criticized the attack as a breach of Qatar's sovereignty and territorial integrity. Western governments voiced concern, with US officials saying the strike 'does not advance our goals' and undermines efforts to secure a ceasefire.
