FM Confirms Egypt’s Desire to Elevate Ties with Romania

Brussels: Minister of Foreign Affairs, Emigration and Egyptian Expatriates Badr Abdelatty confirmed Egypt's desire to elevate its relations with Romania to the level of a comprehensive partnership. Abdelatty's remarks came at a meeting with Romanian Foreign Minister Oana ?oiu on the sidelines of his participation in the Egypt-European Union summit, held in the Belgian capital, Brussels.

According to State Information Service Egypt, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs released a statement on Saturday 25/10/2025, detailing the discussions between the two sides. They reviewed bilateral relations between Egypt and Romania, emphasizing their mutual commitment to enhancing cooperation in various fields, including trade, investment, education, and culture.

Abdelatty highlighted the promising opportunities available in the Egyptian market for Romanian companies, and the pivotal role Romania can play in strengthening relations between Egypt and the European Union. This dialogue comes especially ahead of the 120th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the two countries.

The meeting also covered the latest regional developments, particularly the Palestinian cause. Abdelatty reviewed the results of the Sharm El-Sheikh Peace Summit and the subsequent efforts to implement the ceasefire agreement in Gaza according to U.S. President Donald Trump's plan. He emphasized the importance of fully implementing the agreement's terms to ensure lasting peace, halt aggression, and initiate the reconstruction process.

He also referred to the ongoing preparations for the upcoming International Conference on Early Recovery, Reconstruction, and Development in Cairo next month. Abdelatty emphasized Egypt's hope for active European participation, including from Romania, in supporting the reconstruction efforts in Gaza and promoting regional stability.

For her part, the Romanian official expressed her country's appreciation for Egypt's central role in supporting regional security and stability. She praised the outcomes of the Egypt-European Union Summit, which resulted in an agreement to strengthen the strategic partnership between both sides. She also reaffirmed Romania's commitment to continuing coordination with Egypt on various bilateral and regional issues of mutual interest.
