Cairo: Counselor Essam El Din Ahmed Mohamed Farid was elected as the Senate speaker for the second legislative term (2025-2030) on Saturday, 18/10/2025. The announcement was made by MP Mohamed Aboul-Ela, who chaired the session as the eldest member. Farid secured 299 votes, representing 100 percent of the total ballots cast, with no invalid votes recorded.
According to State Information Service Egypt, Counselor Essam Farid graduated from the Faculty of Law and began his career at the Public Prosecution, where he achieved several ranks until becoming chief prosecutor. He later transitioned to the judiciary, presiding over multiple criminal chambers in appellate courts. Subsequently, he was appointed as the first undersecretary of the Illicit Gains Authority.
Farid also served as the Head of the criminal division and the technical office at the Cairo Court of Appeal. He led several circuits at the courts of appeal in Qena, Assiut, and Cairo. Additionally, he chaired the Council of Presidents of Courts of Appeal and was a member of the Supreme Judicial Council.
Before the election process, the Senate approved the formation of a supervisory committee to oversee the vote. This committee was headed by MP Hossam el Khouly and included members Mohamed Abdel Fadil, Mahmoud Salah, Mohamed Shabana, Dalia Saad Youssef, and Amira Saber.
