Cairo: Dr. Ahmed El-Sobky, the head of Egypt Healthcare Authority (EHA), met with Russian Deputy Minister of Health Tatyana Semenova to explore areas of cooperation in medical education, therapeutic tourism, telemedicine, nuclear medicine, and neutron therapy.
According to State Information Service Egypt, the meeting was attended by a high-level Russian delegation, including senior officials from the Russian Ministry of Health and the Russian Embassy in Cairo. El-Sobky highlighted two strategic projects with Russia: an integrated international center for cancer diagnosis and treatment using nuclear medicine and radiation therapy in collaboration with ROSATOM, and a partnership with POLYMED to expand AI-powered mobile healthcare services. These services include routine check-ups, home care, and outreach programs.
El-Sobky noted that telemedicine is a priority area of cooperation, particularly in extending healthcare access to remote areas, aligning with the second phase of Egypt's universal health insurance program. Discussions also covered launching a joint medical tourism program tailored for Russian patients, with EHA facilities already receiving between 1,000 and 1,200 Russian cases annually.
Deputy Minister Semenova invited El-Sobky to visit Russia's advanced research centers in medical education and health technology, as well as universities affiliated with the Russian Health Ministry. She confirmed that Russian universities offer specialized scholarships for Egyptian doctors in advanced medical fields to promote knowledge transfer. Both parties agreed to launch twinning programs and exchange initiatives between the General Authority for Healthcare and the Russian Health Ministry, aiming to strengthen medical education and develop human resources across multiple specialties.
