Cairo: Minister of Foreign Affairs, Emigration and Egyptian Expatriates Badr Abdelatty held a phone call on Wednesday, August 20, 2025, with US Special Envoy for the Middle East Steve Witkoff to discuss the crisis in Gaza and developments related to Iran's nuclear program.

According to State Information Service Egypt, spokesperson for the Foreign Ministry Tamim Khalaf said Abdelatty reviewed the latest ceasefire negotiations following Hamas's approval of a US proposal. He emphasized the necessity for Israel to accept the plan to secure the release of hostages, alleviate civilian suffering in Gaza, and ensure the delivery of adequate humanitarian aid.

The minister highlighted the importance of seizing the current opportunity to end nearly two years of conflict and to commence negotiations for a just resolution of the Palestinian issue.

Regarding Iran, Abdelatty reiterated that escalation must be avoided, asserting that there is no military solution to the nuclear file or regional crises. He noted that Egypt is actively working towards a return to negotiations to bolster stability and security.

He further emphasized Egypt's dedication to collaborating with the United States to promote peace in the Middle East, aligning with US President Donald Trump's vision to resolve the longstanding conflict between Palestinians and Israelis.
