Egypt Engages South Korea’s Incheon Airport Corp for Airport Development Partnership

Cairo: Egypt's Civil Aviation Minister Sameh Hefny engaged in discussions with executives from South Korea's Incheon International Airport Corporation (IIAC) to explore potential collaborations in the development and operation of Egyptian airports. The meeting, held at the Ministry of Civil Aviation, focused on leveraging international cooperation to enhance Egypt's aviation infrastructure.

According to State Information Service Egypt, the IIAC officials shared their extensive experience in managing over 30 major airports globally, including those in Seoul and Istanbul. They highlighted their expertise in airport operations, investment zone development, and public-private partnerships, which could be instrumental in Egypt's plans to modernize its airport facilities.

Minister Hefny highlighted the Egyptian government's initiative to open 11 airports for private sector management and operation. He noted that Hurghada International Airport is expected to be the first to transition by the end of the year. The ministry is collaborating with the International Finance Corporation (IFC) to attract global investors to support the modernization efforts necessary to meet the increasing passenger demand.

'We seek strategic partnerships that enhance Egypt's airport capabilities and align with the expected growth in travel and tourism,' stated Minister Hefny, emphasizing the country's openness to international investment opportunities.

Chaiwoo Lee, Executive Director of the Overseas Business Group at IIAC, acknowledged Egypt's potential to become a regional aviation hub. He expressed the corporation's commitment to supporting Egypt through consultancy and joint investment projects aimed at enhancing the country's competitiveness in the aviation sector.

These discussions align with Egypt's broader strategy to strengthen its position as a key regional center for air transport and economic development through improved airport infrastructure and international collaboration.
