Egypt and US to Commence ‘Bright Star 2025’ Military Exercise on August 28

Cairo: The Egyptian Armed Forces announced on Saturday, August 23, 2025, that the joint Egyptian-American military exercise Bright Star 2025 is set to take place in Egypt from August 28 to September 10.

According to State Information Service Egypt, a video teaser released by the Armed Forces spokesperson revealed that the 19th edition of the exercise will be conducted on Egyptian territory and is anticipated to be one of the largest military drills in the Middle East.

This year's exercise will see the participation of 43 countries, with 13 countries directly involved through over 7,900 soldiers and 30 other nations participating as observers.

Bright Star, first launched in 1980 as a bilateral drill between the US and Egypt, has evolved into a multinational exercise. Its objectives include bolstering regional security, enhancing military cooperation, and improving interoperability among partner forces.

Additionally, Bright Star is recognized as one of the longest-running exercises within the US Central Command's area of responsibility.
