Egypt and UK Advocate Complete Implementation of Gaza Ceasefire Agreement

Cairo: Minister of Foreign Affairs, Emigration and Egyptian Expatriates Badr Abdelatty communicated with UK Foreign Secretary Yvette Cooper, emphasizing the necessity for the full execution of the first phase of the ceasefire agreement in the Gaza Strip.

According to State Information Service Egypt, the two ministers urged the conflicting parties to adhere to their commitments and highlighted the significance of progressing to the second phase of the agreement, which is part of US President Donald Trump's Peace Plan. The Foreign Ministry Spokesman Tamim Khallaf stated that the ministers reviewed the Sharm El-Sheikh Peace Summit outcomes, which resulted in a historic agreement to halt the Gaza conflict.

In this context, the British Foreign Secretary praised Egypt's pivotal role in achieving the agreement to end the war and expressed the British Prime Minister's admiration for participating in the historic summit. She acknowledged President Abdel Fattah El Sisi's leadership that contributed to the summit's success and initiated a new approach to support regional stability.

Abdelatty emphasized the importance of delivering humanitarian aid to the Palestinian enclave in amounts that match its urgent needs. Concerning the international stabilization force envisioned in the Trump peace plan, the Egyptian diplomat stressed the need for a UN Security Council resolution to define the force's mandate and authority, in coordination with the Palestinian side. He also highlighted the UK's involvement, alongside other permanent Security Council members, in this initiative.

The ministers explored potential British involvement in the forthcoming international conference on Gaza's early recovery and reconstruction, which Egypt plans to host in November with international partners. Abdelatty expressed Egypt's hope that the UK would participate as a principal contributor and sponsor of this significant conference.

Additionally, the ministers discussed strengthening bilateral relations by facilitating high-level visits and advancing their relationship to a strategic partnership. They underscored the importance of organizing a high-level Egypt-UK investment conference to enhance mutual interests and foster economic, trade, and investment cooperation between the two nations.
