Egypt and Tunisia Strengthen Economic Ties at Joint Committee Talks

Cairo: Egypt and Tunisia have reached an agreement to enhance trade and investment relations during the 18th session of the Egypt-Tunisia Joint Higher Committee held in Cairo this week. This development was announced by Egypt's Cabinet on Thursday.

According to State Information Service Egypt, Egyptian Planning and International Cooperation Minister Rania Al-Mashat met with Tunisian Minister of Trade and Export Development Samir Abid. Al-Mashat highlighted the committee's function as a crucial platform for collaboration in several sectors, including infrastructure, logistics, transport, trade, and industry.

Official data revealed that Egypt's exports to Tunisia saw a significant increase of 15.4% in 2024, reaching $434.5 million. Both governments are keen on sustaining this growth trajectory by capitalizing on major economic agreements. These include the Greater Arab Free Trade Area and the African Continental Free Trade Area, alongside leveraging their membership in COMESA.

Al-Mashat emphasized the importance of the private sector in penetrating African, Arab, and European markets. She noted the necessity of expanding the presence of Egyptian and Tunisian products globally, underscoring the mutual benefits of strengthened economic ties between the two nations.
