Cairo: Minister of Foreign Affairs, Emigration and Expatriates Badr Abdelatty reaffirmed Egypt's deep appreciation for its long-standing relations with Russia during a meeting with Sergei Shoigu, Secretary of Russia's Security Council. Abdelatty highlighted Egypt's commitment to advancing bilateral cooperation across various sectors.
According to State Information Service Egypt, the talks were part of ongoing efforts to bolster the historical relations between the two countries, focusing on enhancing coordination on regional and international issues of shared concern. Foreign ministry spokesman Tamim Khallaf stated that discussions emphasized strengthening the strategic partnership under the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership Agreement.
Both sides reviewed progress on significant joint projects, including the Dabaa nuclear power plant and the Russian Industrial Zone in the Suez Canal Economic Zone. These projects are considered crucial for industrial and investment cooperation. Abdelatty expressed optimism about the industrial zone's impending operations and encouraged Russian companies to expand their investments in Egypt.
The talks also covered regional issues. Abdelatty briefed Shoigu on Egypt's efforts to sustain the ceasefire in the Gaza Strip and advance to the second phase of the truce agreement, which includes political, humanitarian, and development dimensions. He reaffirmed Egypt's dedication to easing the humanitarian crisis in Gaza and speeding up reconstruction efforts, noting preparations for the Cairo International Conference on Gaza's Early Recovery and Reconstruction.
The Ukraine crisis was also discussed, with Abdelatty reiterating Egypt's call for a peaceful and diplomatic resolution to ensure regional and global stability. The meeting concluded with both sides affirming their commitment to continued coordination on international and regional issues, focusing on supporting stability, security, and development in the Middle East for the benefit of both Egyptian and Russian peoples.
