Egypt and Jordan Launch First Direct Submarine Cable Link in 25 Years

Taba: Egypt and Jordan have inaugurated the 'Coral Bridge' submarine cable, marking the first direct digital connection between the two nations in over 25 years. This significant event was witnessed via videoconference by Egypt's Minister of Communications and Information Technology, Amr Talaat, and Jordan's Digital Economy Minister, Sami Al-Samirat.

According to State Information Service Egypt, the landing of the cable took place in Taba, Egypt. The Coral Bridge stretches 15 kilometers across the Gulf of Aqaba and is equipped with advanced optical fibers. This infrastructure is designed to accommodate the increasing demand for artificial intelligence applications and data centers, facilitating uninterrupted international data traffic between Asia, Africa, and Europe.

The project is a joint effort by Telecom Egypt and Jordan's Naitel, aiming to bolster both countries' roles as regional digital hubs. It also offers alternative pathways and backup connections for major enterprises and cloud service providers, enhancing the digital infrastructure in the region.
