Cairo: Egypt's Minister of Electricity and Renewable Energy, Mahmoud Esmat, held talks with Swedish energy company ABB to explore cooperation on energy efficiency, renewable-powered factories, and modernization of the country's electricity grid.

According to State Information Service Egypt, the discussions focused on upgrading transmission and distribution networks, deploying smart meters, and using advanced technology in control centers to reduce electricity losses and manage loads more efficiently.

ABB also highlighted plans to convert its Egyptian factories into environmentally friendly, zero-carbon facilities. Esmat emphasized the ministry's ongoing efforts to improve power quality, ensure grid stability, and integrate renewable energy while supporting private sector participation in national energy projects.

The minister noted that modernizing the grid and adopting smart technologies are key to meeting rising domestic electricity demand and reducing technical and commercial losses. The meeting also reviewed the implementation of a memorandum of understanding to strengthen the grid using high-voltage and direct current technologies, as well as interconnection projects, including links with European networks.
