Doha: Egyptian experts and analysts have highlighted the significance of Qatar hosting an emergency Arab and Islamic summit this week, aimed at consolidating support from the Arab and Islamic world for Doha’s efforts against Israeli aggression. This follows recent attacks on residential areas housing Hamas leaders in Doha.
According to Union of OIC News Agencies, the Doha Summit is seen as a pivotal event requiring a unified Arab stance to move beyond mere condemnation and take practical actions against the ongoing Israeli aggression. Experts emphasize the need for collective measures to support Qatar's sovereignty and protect Arab national security, while also defending Palestine amidst the crimes of Israeli occupation.
Dr. Samir Farag, an Egyptian thinker and strategic expert, stressed the emergency summit's critical role in sending deterrent messages to Israel. He advocates for an Arab strategy to safeguard Arab and Islamic countries, highlighting the direct threats posed by Israel and other indirect risks to Arab national security.
Ezzat Ibrahim, editor-in-chief of Al-Ahram Weekly, echoed these sentiments, calling for a unified Arab position that transcends traditional condemnation. He argues that the summit must address not only the defense of Palestine but also the protection of Arab national security to prevent further chaos and ethnic cleansing.
Ibrahim further emphasized the need for the summit to reject forced displacement of Palestinians and to establish red lines against Israeli military expansion. He suggests revisiting the Arab Peace Initiative within a modern context, leveraging diplomatic and economic tools to remind the international community of the occupation and settlement issues at the heart of regional crises.
The summit is also expected to develop a mechanism for coordinating humanitarian and media efforts, addressing the humanitarian crisis in the Gaza Strip, and countering Israel's narrative. The aim is to create a unified Arab platform to document violations, support field journalists, and ensure humanitarian aid access, thereby holding the international community accountable for its responsibilities.
