Cairo: Cairo University President Mohamed Sami Abdel Sadek met with a delegation from the French Senate's Committee on Culture, Education, Communication, and Sports to explore expanding academic and research cooperation with French universities.
According to State Information Service Egypt, the meeting, led by Laurent Lafon, focused on enhancing existing partnerships and establishing new ones. Abdel Sadek emphasized the historical scientific ties between Egypt and France, mentioning the university's recent signing of six Memoranda of Understanding with top French institutions during President Emmanuel Macron's visit to Cairo in April. These agreements cover fields such as engineering, energy, smart cities, sustainability, archaeology, and Eastern civilizations. They include initiatives like dual-degree programs and joint research projects with institutions such as Paris-Sorbonne, Sorbonne Nouvelle, Aix-Marseille, INSA Lyon, and INALCO.
Lafon acknowledged the current partnerships in law and political science and expressed a strong interest in further strengthening these ties, particularly in postgraduate education. The French delegation stated that their visit to Egypt is aimed at deepening academic and cultural cooperation between the two countries.
