Cairo Trains Young African Journalists in Strategic Programme

Cairo: Cairo will host the 61st edition of the Union of African Journalists' (UAJ) training programme for young African journalists starting 16 August. The event will bring together 21 participants from 20 countries, along with several Egyptian journalists and three union leaders from C´te d'Ivoire, Djibouti, and Uganda.

According to State Information Service Egypt, the three-week programme, chaired by UAJ head Mahfouz Al-Ansari, will feature seminars on topics such as the African Continental Free Trade Area, journalist safety in peace and conflict, Africa's cultural soft power, human rights, Egypt's recent achievements, and the impact of US policy on the continent.

Sessions will also address media ethics, investment in African resources, and aspects of Egyptian civilization. Participants will benefit from hands-on training in AI-based video editing and will attend workshops at the Egyptian Journalists Syndicate and the American University in Cairo (AUC).

The programme also includes visits to press institutions, the Middle East News Agency, and tourist sites in Cairo, Giza, Alexandria, the New Administrative Capital, the Media Production City, and the National Center for Translation affiliated with the Ministry of Culture.

The previous edition of the programme, held from 12 April to 1 May, hosted 22 journalists from 14 African countries in cooperation with Egypt's Foreign Ministry.
