Al Azhar Grand Imam Travels to Rome for International Religious Summit

Rome: Grand Imam of Al Azhar Ahmed el Tayyeb has embarked on an official visit to Rome to partake in the International Meeting of religions and cultures, 'Osare la pace - Daring peace'. The event is organized by the Community of Sant'Egidio and is scheduled to take place from October 26-28, 2025.

According to State Information Service Egypt, the conference will host several leaders and decision-makers, including Pope Leo XIV, the Head of the Catholic Church and sovereign of the Vatican City State, Italian President Sergio Mattarella, and Queen Mathilde of Belgium. A distinguished group of religious figures and intellectuals from around the globe is also expected to attend.

During the conference, the Grand Imam is set to deliver a keynote address at the opening session, focusing on the significance of achieving peace that is grounded in justice. He will highlight the ethical and humanitarian obligations of religious leaders to strive for the resolution of conflicts, wars, and disputes.

In addition to his address, Tayyeb will hold meetings with Pope Leo XIV and other prominent religious leaders and intellectuals attending the summit. The discussions are anticipated to tackle current issues affecting both religious and international landscapes and to amplify the role of religions in mitigating the ongoing crises, wars, and conflicts affecting the world, particularly the aggression in Gaza and the West Bank.

Tayyeb will emphasize the importance of adhering to the peace agreement hosted in Sharm El-Sheikh as a vital step towards bolstering security and stability in the region and globally.
