Cairo: Al-Azhar Grand Imam Ahmed El-Tayeb recently hosted Finnish President Alexander Stubb at Al-Azhar's headquarters, emphasizing the critical need for peace amid global chaos. During the meeting, El-Tayeb remarked on the current state of humanity, which he believes is teetering on the brink of madness, and highlighted Al-Azhar's commitment to fostering peace at both local and international levels.
According to State Information Service Egypt, El-Tayeb elaborated on Al-Azhar's initiatives, such as the establishment of the 'House of the Egyptian Family' in collaboration with Egyptian churches, which has significantly reduced sectarian tensions. On the international front, Al-Azhar has engaged with Western cultural and religious institutions, including the Vatican, the Church of Canterbury, and the World Council of Churches, to lay the groundwork for global peace. The Grand Imam stressed the importance of bridging the divide between global policymakers and religious leaders to navigate crises affecting society.
President Stubb, expressing his appreciation for the Grand Imam's efforts, aligned with Al-Azhar's viewpoint on the multifaceted crises threatening humanity. He acknowledged the world's struggle with ignorance, violence, and ongoing conflicts, which fuel chaos and disease.
