Bow Valley College introduces an English proficiency exemption

Removing barriers for newcomers and international students

Calgary, March 20, 2023 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) — Bow Valley College is announcing an exciting change to its admissions process for many international students and newcomers to Canada. Applicants from almost 50 countries around the world are now exempt from taking an English language proficiency test.

“Bow Valley College prides itself on removing barriers to learning. This landmark change provides students from countries where English is the primary language of education the opportunity to realize their academic dreams with a more seamless entry,” says Kara Mott, Dean, Enrolment Management and Registrar, Bow Valley College.

To qualify, applicants must provide transcripts that show completion of required secondary (high school) or post-secondary education. The change applies to virtually all Bow Valley College programs.

“As a former international student, I know firsthand what preparing for an English language proficiency test is like. An exemption for some of our prospective students means one less step, saving them time and money. Egyptian president, Russian delegation discuss economic relations

Egypt and Russia underscored their mutual commitment to further strengthening economic relations, spokesman for the Egyptian Presidency said in a statement on Sunday.

In a meeting held in the Egyptian capital of Cairo, Egyptian President Abdel-Fattah al-Sisi discussed with a high-level Russian delegation the economic relations between the two countries, Ahmed Fahmy was quoted as saying in the statement.

The two sides talked about Russian investments and their joint ventures in Egypt in a number of fields, particularly the construction of the nuclear power plant in El Dabaa, as well as the establishment of the Russian Industrial Zone in the Suez Canal Industrial Zone.

The meeting also focused on cooperation in the supply of grain and food in light of the current global crisis, according to the spokesman.

The Russian delegation included Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Trade and Industry, Denis Manturov, Special Representative of the Russian President Mikhail Bogdanov as well as the vice president of the Russian Central Bank.

Irrigation minister heads for NY to take part in UN 2023 Water Conference

Minister of Irrigation and Water Resources Hani Suweilam left here for New York on Monday leading a high-level delegation to take part in the UN 2023 Water Conference, set for March 22 to 24, which coincides with the World Water Day.

In statements before departure, Suweilam said the Egyptian participation in this important conference comes as part of Egypt’s efforts to garner efforts of the international community to support water issues especially at the current time as international water challenges are negatively affecting many world countries topped by the developing countries in Africa.

He said the conference on the Midterm Comprehensive Review of the Implementation of the Objectives of the International Decade for Action, has been preceded by several regional and international events to prepare for this conference and its recommendations.

He also said Egypt has played a very prominent role in such international events such as Cairo Water Week and the UN Climate Conference (COP27) to render a success to the file of water and climate change and enhance cooperation among various world countries to face the water challenges.

The conference is set to address a plan of action on coping with the water sector, which was launched by Egypt during COP27.

On December 20, 2018, the General Assembly adopted the resolution on the “Midterm comprehensive review of the implementation of the International Decade for Action, ‘Water for Sustainable Development’, 2018-2028” (A/RES/73/226).

The outcome of the Conference will be a summary of the Conference proceedings and new commitments, pledges and actions by Governments and all stakeholders towards achieving SDG 6 and other water-related goals and targets, compiled in the Water Action Agenda.

The Conference, co-hosted by the Governments of Tajikistan and the Netherlands, will feature an opening and closing ceremony, six plenary meetings and five multi-stakeholder interactive dialogues. It will also feature a number of high-level special events and side events organized by Member States, the UN system and other stakeholders

Shoukry holds three-way meeting with Danish minister

Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry, president of COP27, held a three-day meeting with Danish Minister for Development Cooperation and Global Climate Policy Dan Jørgensen and COP28 President-Designate Sultan Al-Jaber, said Foreign Ministry Spokesman Ahmed Abu Zeid on Twitter.

The meeting comes on the fringe of a ministerial meeting in Copenhagen on climate change.

The Copenhagen Climate Ministerial will be held on March 20-21 as the first political high-level meeting following up on the 2022 UN climate conference, COP27 along with UAE which is the president of the upcoming climate Summit

Emigration min., mayor of Irvine discuss boosting cooperation

Minister for Emigration Soha Gendy discussed with Mayor of Irvine Farrah Khan boosting cooperation with the city where a large number of the Egyptian expats live and making twinning agreements with Egyptian cities.

In a statement on Monday, the Ministry of Emigration said that the meeting, held on the sidelines of the minister’s visit to the US, tackled projects of new and renewable energy in Egypt and cooperation with the US in this field.

Gendy said that she is looking forward to promoting cooperation with Irvine, a city in California, in light of celebrating the centennial of Egyptian-US diplomatic relations last year.

Gendy said that Egypt plays a pioneering role to combat climate change, citing the country’s efforts to boost global climate action while playing host to the 2022 UN climate conference, COP27, in Sharm el Sheikh.

She asserted the keenness of her ministry on boosting cooperation with Egyptian experts based abroad to benefit from their potentials in supporting ongoing national development efforts.

She urged the businessmen in Irvine to invest in Egypt in the projects of clean and renewable energy.

Wazir, Dutch diplomat probe cooperation

Transport Minister Kamel El Wazir discussed Monday with Dutch Ambassador in Cairo Han-Maurits Schaapveld cooperation in different transport fields, particularly in sea and river navigation.

The two sides also probed the possibility of cooperating in sea transport to boost the exportation of Egyptian crops to the Netherlands.

Wazir said he is looking forward to cooperating with the Dutch side in all transport areas.

In turn, the Dutch diplomat commended the great progress achieved in the transport sector in Egypt.

The Egyptian official said his ministry is implementing an ambitious plan to develop the maritime transport industry in the country.
