IDSC reviews scenarios to deal with global economic challenges

The Cabinet’s Information and Decision Support Center (IDSC) has organized its eighth workshop to outline an integrated research project meant to address global economic challenges in 2023 and 2024.

An expanded debate was held on Friday, in the presence of 20 representatives of the business community, research centers, academics, executives, ministries, the “Decent Life” presidential initiative, the UN World Food Program (WFP) and the US Agency for International Development (USAID).

The meeting was organized upon directives by Prime Minister Moustafa Madbouli.

The meeting took up economic growth trends in developed and developing countries and global institutions’ expectations of recession paths resulting from raising interest rates and the consequences of the Ukrainian crisis.

It also reviewed the crises related to high inflation rates and global supply chains in light of the continued policies of central banks around the world to tighten monetary policy.

The session also reviewed the impact of global crises on sustainable development and the most prominent challenges and future paths to achieve the goals of sustainable development.

On February 2, the IDSC launched a series of workshops with the aim to bring together parties with different ideas and views about how to best confront the global economic challenges.

Egypt welcomes Libyan parl’t’s approval of 13th amendment to Constitutional Declaration

Egypt welcomed on Friday the approval of the Libyan House of Representatives of the 13th amendment to the Constitutional Declaration.

In a statement, the Foreign Ministry deemed it as an important step in terms of fulfilling the necessary framework for holding the Libyan presidential and parliamentary elections as soon as possible, under the supervision of a neutral executive authority that upholds the interests of Libya.

Egypt hoped that the Libyan House of Representatives and the State Council to complete their efforts in terms of enacting election laws, the statement added.

The statement renewed Egypt’s full support for the path of reaching an inter-Libyan solution, lauding efforts exerted by the House of Representatives, the only elected legislative body in Libya, and the High Council of State, in this regard.

According to the statement, Egypt rejected any foreign dictations on the Libyan brothers or any attempt to bypassing the role of Libyan institutions in accordance with the reference of the Skhirat Agreement.

Egypt also stressed the necessity of stopping foreign interference in Libya’s internal affairs, calling for the withdrawal of all foreign troops and mercenaries from Libya, the statement said.

It expressed its support of the Libyan 5+5 Joint Military Committee (JMC). It also asserted its keenness on preserving the sovereignty and stability of Libya, the statement added.

Sisi inspects workflow at projects of axes, roads in Giza

President Abdel Fattah El Sisi on Friday inspected the workflow at some projects of axes and roads, as part of an overall plan aimed at developing the roads of Greater Cairo to face overpopulation and reduce traffic congestion, said Presidential Spokesman Ahmed Fahmi.

The spokesman added the ongoing road projects in Giza include upgrading some of the existing axes and constructing new axes, with a total length of 177 km.

Those axes being built in Giza will contribute to easing traffic flow and curbing environmental pollution, as well as cutting fuel consumption and greenhouse gas emissions, the spokesman noted.

Environment min.: We seek to provide investment opportunities in waste recycling

Environment Minister Yasmine Fouad said her ministry seeks in the coming period to provide investment opportunities in waste recycling, which has become a source of livelihood for many young people.

Fouad’s remarks came during her participation on Friday in the inauguration of the “Diarna” exhibition for handicrafts, in the presence of the ministers of social solidarity, supply, local development, education, public business sector and civil aviation, as well as the EU ambassador in Cairo and the chairman of the international banking group Intesa Sanpaolo.

The environment minister inspected her ministry’s pavilion at the exhibition, which gives space to local communities and civil society organizations from 20 governorates to showcase their handmade works.

She noted the exhibition includes displaying the products of (Eco Egypt) campaign to promote the eco-tourism and natural reserves, presenting publications of the Environment Ministry and distributing cloth bags as an alternative to single-use plastic bags to the visitors.

Lasting till March 11, the exhibition is stretched over an area of 2,800 square meters, grouping over 400 exhibitors, who display various products from nearly 20 governorates.

This year, the exhibition celebrates the culture and arts of the Siwa Oasis, one of the most unique Egyptian Western Desert Oases, as the guest of honor.

The exhibition also hosts special pavilions for the UN High Commissioner for Refugees in Egypt, people with special gifts, environmental associations, the Egyptian Red Crescent and Nasser Social Bank.

Social solidarity min. inaugurates ‘Diarna’ handicrafts exhibition

Social Solidarity Minister Nevine el Qabbag on Friday opened the “Diarna” exhibition for handicrafts.

The opening ceremony was attended by Minister of Supply and Internal Trade Ali Moselhi, Environment Minister Yasmine Fouad, Local Development Minister Hisham Amna, Education Minister Reda Hegazi, Public Business Sector Minister Mahmoud Esmat, Civil Aviation Minister Mohamed Abbas Helmy, Head of the European Union Delegation to Egypt Christian Berger, and representatives of international agencies in Egypt.

Lasting till March 11, the exhibition is stretched over an area of 2,800 square meters, grouping over 400 exhibitors, who display various products from different governorates.

This year, the exhibition celebrates the culture and arts of the Siwa Oasis, one of the most unique Egyptian Western Desert Oases, as the guest of honor.
