Suez Canal Keeps Development Vision on Track Despite Global Shipping Headwinds

Cairo: Egypt's Suez Canal is pressing ahead with its ambitious development and modernization programme despite challenges facing global shipping, its authority head Osama Rabie said on Wednesday, August 13, 2025. The works aim to boost navigational safety, cut the impact of water and wind currents, and increase capacity by six to eight ships.

According to State Information Service Egypt, the Suez Canal remains fully secure, with 16 pilot stations, navigation monitoring centers, and specialized maritime rescue and pollution control facilities. Rabie highlighted that the authority has enhanced service quality by introducing offerings such as maintenance, repair, crew changes, maritime ambulance, and refueling. These initiatives aim to attract more customers and diversify revenue streams.
