Rubio Says Attack on Qatar Won’t Affect US-Israel Ties

Washington: US Secretary of State Marco Rubio stated that Israel's attack on Qatar, which targeted Hamas members, will not alter the relationship between Tel Aviv and Washington. "Obviously, we were not happy about it; the president was not happy about it," Rubio commented to reporters before leaving for Britain and Israel.

According to TRTworld.com, Rubio emphasized that the incident would not change the fundamental nature of US-Israel relations, although discussions will be necessary to assess the impact on diplomatic efforts aimed at achieving a truce in Gaza.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu reinforced the decision to attack, arguing that eliminating Hamas leaders residing in Qatar would clear the main hurdle to freeing hostages and stopping the violence in Gaza. Netanyahu accused these leaders of blocking ceasefire efforts to prolong the conflict, as stated in a post on X.

Hamas, in response, characterized the Doha attack as an Israeli attempt to disrupt ceasefire negotiations and maintained that it would not alter the group's conditions for ending the situation in Gaza. Following the attack on Doha, Israel has extended its military actions to six countries in the region, including Palestine, Yemen, Syria, Lebanon, Iran, and Qatar.
