Sharm el-sheikh: President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi received German Chancellor, Friedrich Merz, on the sidelines of the Sharm El-Sheikh Summit for Peace. The meeting was attended by Minister of Foreign Affairs, Emigration, and Egyptian Expatriates, Dr. Badr Abdel-Atty, and Director of the General Intelligence Service, Major General Hassan Rashad.
According to State Information Service Egypt, German Chancellor Merz commended President El-Sisi's efforts, which led to the ceasefire agreement in the Gaza Strip. Chancellor Merz expressed hope for a lasting peace and affirmed Germany's readiness to assist in rebuilding the Gaza Strip. President El-Sisi expressed appreciation for Germany and emphasized strengthening Egyptian-German relations towards a strategic partnership.
The President highlighted the importance of increasing the presence of major German companies in the Egyptian market, particularly due to Egypt's free trade agreements with Arab and African nations. He described Egypt's foreign policy as balanced and proactive, emphasizing de-escalation and conflict avoidance.
President El-Sisi stressed the need for continued political coordination between Egypt and Germany on mutual interests such as the crises in Syria, Sudan, and Libya. He appreciated Germany's readiness to help with Gaza's reconstruction and emphasized the importance of solidifying the ceasefire and delivering humanitarian aid.
During the meeting, President El-Sisi expressed gratitude for Germany's support within the European Union and looked forward to the Egyptian-European Summit in Brussels in October 2025. He invited Chancellor Merz to visit Egypt officially, an invitation the Chancellor welcomed.
Chancellor Merz thanked President El-Sisi for the summit invitation and viewed their meeting as a new phase for closer bilateral relations. He reaffirmed that ending the Gaza conflict was not possible without President El-Sisi's efforts and conveyed Germany's appreciation. The Chancellor also committed to encouraging German companies to increase investments in mutually beneficial areas.
