PM Reviews Progress of Water Desalination Plants in North Sinai

Cairo: Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly convened a meeting to assess the progress of seawater desalination plants in North Sinai Governorate, underscoring the government's commitment to advancing this sector as a key component of sustainable development.

According to State Information Service Egypt, the meeting included high-profile attendees such as Engineer Sherif El-Shorbany, Minister of Housing, Utilities and Urban Communities, and Dr. Sayed Ismail, Deputy Minister of Housing, among others. The Prime Minister highlighted the importance of expanding the desalination sector by adopting the latest technologies, aiming to enhance efficiency and production capacity. Egypt's short-term goal is to produce 10 million cubic meters of desalinated water per day within the next five to six years.

The Prime Minister emphasized the necessity of maintaining the desalination plants in North Sinai at optimal efficiency to protect the investments. Counselor Mohamed El-Homssani, spokesperson for the Prime Minister's Office, explained that the meeting evaluated the status and operating systems of desalination plants in North Sinai as part of a broader plan to improve water systems in the region, which is integral to developmental projects aimed at elevating citizens' living standards.

Efforts are underway to ensure the desalination plants in Arish operate efficiently, contributing to the development of the drinking water infrastructure and securing sustainable water supplies for North Sinai's communities. The meeting also reviewed the operational status of the desalination plant west of Arish, which has a capacity of 100,000 m³/day and serves 350,000 residents. The plant features six desalination units equipped with energy-saving pressure exchange systems, demonstrating the state's commitment to both technological innovation and sustainable resource management.
