Cairo: Prime Minister Mustafa Madbouly reviewed a number of files jointly handled by the Ministries of Local Development and Finance at a meeting attended by Dr Manal Awad, Minister of Local Development and Acting Minister of Environment, Mr Ahmed Kouchouk, Minister of Finance, and several officials from the Ministry of Finance.
According to State Information Service Egypt, the Minister of Local Development emphasized that the ministry places supporting governorates in implementing integrated local development projects, developing the local economy, and reinforcing the principles of decentralization at the top of its priorities, in order to achieve genuine sustainable development that directly improves citizens' lives.
Dr Manal Awad also explained that the ministry regularly monitors governorates' plans to develop their own revenues and the proposed activities to maximize use of their resources and comparative advantages, as well as the monitoring and evaluation mechanisms for the current situation and the mechanisms for resolving problems facing economic activities and projects, with a view to developing their own resources as one of the areas for local administration reform.
The Minister of Finance noted that there is coordination and cooperation with the Ministry of Local Development regarding support for governorates' plans to develop their own revenues, in accordance with the applicable rules and regulations, which contributes to the implementation of various service projects and to improving citizens' lives.
Counsellor Mohamed Al-Homsani, the official spokesperson for the Cabinet, stated that the meeting addressed a number of financial files related to the services implemented by the governorates as part of developing their own revenues, with the aim of improving the services provided to citizens.
The spokesperson added that the meeting considered the Ministry of Local Development's plans, in coordination with the governorates, to make the best possible use of the resources and comparative advantages available to them, as part of efforts to strengthen own-source revenues as a component of local administration development.
