Cairo: Dr. Mostafa Madbouly, the Prime Minister, held a meeting this evening to review the progress of projects aimed at revitalizing "Downtown" and Khedive Cairo, with a focus on enhancing the visual appeal of central Cairo. The meeting was attended by key figures including Engineer Sherif El-Sharif, Minister of Housing, Utilities and Urban Communities, Dr. Ibrahim Saber, Governor of Cairo, and other top officials from the Urban Development Fund and the National Coordination Agency.
According to State Information Service Egypt, the Prime Minister emphasized the significance of these projects in preserving the architectural and urban legacy of this historic region while maintaining its civilizational integrity. Dr. Madbouly highlighted the importance of these revitalization efforts, which aim to leverage the extensive real estate wealth of these areas, vital to Egypt's historical narrative.
Engineer Sherif El-Sharif elaborated on the ministry's vision for the revival of the "Khedive Cairo" area. He detailed the ongoing initiatives to improve the visual image of central Cairo while safeguarding its unique architectural character. The status of Azbakeya Garden's revival was also discussed, focusing on restoring its heritage components such as the Azbakeya Lake, historical pergolas, and gardening areas.
The Minister of Housing outlined the strategic plan for Azbakeya Garden's operation, emphasizing the preservation of culture, heritage, and entertainment. He also reviewed the development of a new book market in Azbakeya and enhancements in the area, including new kiosks, restrooms, and management facilities.
Sherif El-Sharif described the operating strategy for the kiosks in Azbakeya Garden, which includes maintaining a unified architectural design and ensuring periodic maintenance under expert supervision. He also presented plans for reviving the Building of the Weapons Club, in coordination with the Ministry of Youth and Sports and the National Coordination Agency.
Dr. Ibrahim Saber provided an update on the restoration and development around Attaba Square (Mouski), noting that facade enhancements have reached an execution rate of about 95%. He showcased the transformation of significant properties in the area such as the Tirring Building and Awqaf.
Further, the project to rehabilitate the "Triangle of the Stock Exchange" was highlighted as a model for integrating art and culture into the heart of Khedive Cairo. The area is being transformed into an open museum for cultural and artistic activities, with sustainable development as a key focus.
Saber also outlined the progress of the "Triangle of the Stock Exchange" project, where the first phase has been completed, and the second phase is nearing completion. The third phase, which includes the revival of Al-'Alawi Street and its branches, is set to commence soon.
