PM Inspects Egypt-Saudi Power Linkage Station in Badr

Cairo: Prime Minister Moustafa Madbouli on Tuesday, October 14, 2025, began an inspection visit to review the testing and trial operations of the Egypt-Saudi Arabia power interconnection station located in Badr city. Madbouly confirmed that his visit to the station is part of the commitment to follow the final steps of testing and operating this station, which represents one of the important pillars of the electrical interconnection project between Egypt and the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. This project has garnered direct attention and follow-up from His Excellency President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi, given its significance as an effective model for Arab integration in the energy sector, its role in enhancing the efficiency of electrical grids, supporting their stability, and utilising available generation capacities during peak electrical load periods.

According to State Information Service Egypt, during the inspection, Dr. Mostafa Madbouly visited a significant portion of the station's sections and the control and operations centre, following the testing stages being conducted for all equipment and components of the station in preparation for the project's commencement and interconnection to the unified electrical grid in Egypt and Saudi Arabia before the end of this year. This aligns with the state's vision to find sustainable solutions to maintain the stability of the national unified grid and improve service quality.

The Prime Minister emphasised the importance of adhering to the scheduled operational timelines during the inspection. It was noted that the Badr transformer station and Taba 2 transformer station have been completed, along with the overhead line (Badr/Taba 2) at 500 kV over a length of approximately 320 km. The execution of marine and ground cable works, installation of equipment, laying of medium and low voltage cables, electrical feeding works (AC - DC), operation of control panels, installation of cable terminations, and testing of control panels, drainage, water, and optical fibre networks (OPGW) has also been completed, along with other progress made in the stations and the interconnection line in preparation for the commencement of operation and connection to the electrical grid.

Following the inspection, Dr. Mostafa Madbouly, the Prime Minister, held a meeting at the project site with ministers, officials, representatives of the executing companies' alliance, and consultants. Engineer Iman Qadah, the project consultant's representative, presented a report on the current status of the project from the Egyptian side, execution rates, especially regarding infrastructure, overhead lines, and marine cables, along with an overview of the current timeline and final operational dates.

During the meeting, the Prime Minister praised the efforts made by the executing companies and directed that work proceed swiftly to complete the second phase of this project, so that both phases are ready for operation by April 2026. The Prime Minister also instructed that this giant project be professionally documented to showcase the extent of the efforts involved.

For their part, the alliance of executing companies expressed their gratitude to the Prime Minister for his diligent follow-up on the project's implementation steps, as well as thanking the Minister of Electricity and Renewable Energy for facilitating numerous tasks, overcoming various challenges, and coordinating with relevant authorities. It was noted that the executing companies have recorded approximately 11.6 million working hours so far on this promising project.

The meeting also praised the efficiency of the Egyptian workers relied upon for its implementation. In this context, the Prime Minister stressed the need to establish schools to teach our youth the technical skills required for such projects, with the potential for exporting labour to implement similar projects in other countries.
