PM: Gov’t Intensifies Efforts to Boost Investments in Data Centers, Cloud Computing

Cairo: Prime Minister Moustafa Madbouli announced that the government is intensifying its efforts to enhance the State's capabilities in increasing investments in data centers and cloud computing. This initiative aims to maximize Egypt's advantages in this sector, leveraging the necessary infrastructure built over recent years and the country's strategic geographic location.

According to State Information Service Egypt, the prime minister made these statements during a meeting held at the government's headquarters in the New Administrative Capital to follow up on the implementation status of government data centers. The meeting was attended by several ministers and senior officials.

Minister of Communications and Information Technology Amr Talaat highlighted that the global trend is moving strongly towards establishing large-scale data centers with advanced technical and technological specifications. These centers are designed to accommodate a massive number of computing devices and storage equipment. Talaat emphasized that efforts are underway to enable global specialized companies to establish collaborative ecosystems, allowing numerous users across different organizations and entities to use computing and storage resources simultaneously, a concept known as 'cloud computing.'

Talaat further noted that these extensive data centers also host government applications and data produced by various State institutions. He mentioned that the ministry has begun developing incentives to establish smart national and regional data centers to store and manage data from governorates and cities across the republic.

Cabinet spokesperson Mohamed el-Homsany stated that the meeting reviewed government data centers within the framework of building a fully integrated national data center system that supports digital transformation, government services, and the private sector. This includes 100% government-owned data centers, as well as those with strategic government participation, private sector, and third-party data centers, such as those related to banking, telecommunications, information technology companies, and others. All of this aligns with the State's strategy to advance digital connectivity and transformation efforts, the spokesperson added.

Homsany also mentioned that the meeting addressed the establishment of three fully government-owned data centers and discussed their capabilities, plans for utilization, technologies used, and the level of integration with other data centers.
