PM Congratulates Yassmin Fouad on Her New UN Position

Cairo: Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouli congratulated Egypt's Environment Minister Yassmin Fouad on her appointment as Executive Secretary of the United Nations Convention to Combat Desertification (UNCCD). Fouad's appointment was officially announced on Sunday, July 20, 2025, coinciding with her resignation from her ministerial role.

According to State Information Service Egypt, Madbouli expressed gratitude to Fouad for her contributions since she assumed the role of Environment Minister in 2018. Her new appointment is seen as a testament to her skills in managing significant responsibilities aimed at aiding international efforts to tackle environmental challenges.

Madbouli noted that Fouad's career in the environmental sector has been instrumental in her securing this prominent UN position. He wished her continued success and emphasized her influence in the field of environmental diplomacy, where she has over 25 years of experience.

Yassmin Fouad has been recognized as a leading expert in environmental governance and global environmental issues. Her extensive background includes international climate diplomacy and implementing reforms for sustainable development, which she will now bring to the UNCCD in her new role.
