Muslim Leaders Unite in Condemnation of Israeli Actions at Doha Summit

Doha: Condemnations from the Muslim world mounted on Monday as Qatar hosted an emergency Arab-Islamic summit in Doha, where state leaders condemned Israel's strike on Hamas negotiators in Doha. Addressing the summit, Qatari Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani described the Israeli attack as "cowardly and treacherous," emphasizing that Hamas leaders were reviewing a US ceasefire proposal brought by Qatar and Egypt when the strike occurred.

According to TRTworld.com, Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el Sisi warned that Israel's actions risk undermining current peace agreements. He stated that the recent developments jeopardize the future of peace, threaten regional security, and hinder any prospects for new peace agreements. Sisi noted the potential return to conflict and the loss of historic peace-building efforts, labeling the situation as a price everyone in the region will pay.

Jordan's King Abdullah II called for a robust regional response, urging clarity and decisiveness against Israeli aggression towards Qatar. He emphasized the limitless nature of the threat posed by Israel. The Iranian president, in his address, labeled Israel's attack on Qatar as "a blatant act of terrorism," advocating for Islamic unity as a necessary response.

The summit highlighted Israel's ongoing actions in Gaza, which have been widely criticized as genocidal by various scholars and have resulted in over 64,000 deaths. Qatar, acting as a mediator in the conflict, has accused Israel of sabotaging peace efforts and practicing "state terrorism."

Pakistan's Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif called on the UN to suspend Israel and proposed the formation of an Arab-Islamic task force to counter what he described as Israel's "expansionist designs." He condemned the attack on Doha as an affront to Qatar's sovereignty and an expression of Israel's "hegemonic ambitions."

Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim urged the cessation of diplomatic and trade ties with Israel, seeking support for the Gaza-bound Global Sumud Flotilla. He condemned Israel's actions as reckless provocation, further endangering regional security.

Azerbaijani Foreign Minister Jeyhun Bayramov expressed concern over the airstrikes, advocating for de-escalation in accordance with international law and the UN Charter, while voicing support for Qatar's sovereignty.

Bangladesh's Foreign Ministry criticized the Israeli attack as an affront to the dignity of the Muslim Ummah, calling for concerted efforts by OIC member states to deter further Israeli aggression.

Indonesian Foreign Minister Sugiono underscored the Palestinian question as central to international law and national dignity, urging the UN Security Council to ensure accountability and address the root causes of the conflict. Indonesia reaffirmed its commitment to a sovereign Palestinian state and expressed solidarity with Qatar and Palestine.
