Egypt is deemed the world top dates producer, and enjoys great potentials in dates production and exports, Minister of Trade and Industry Ahmed Samir said Saturday 08/10/2022.
Samir’s comments came in a speech he delivered during his inauguration to the activities of the sixth international festival of dates, held under the auspice of President Abdel Fattah El Sisi in Aswan on October 8-10.
The government is keen on supporting the dates sector, seeing it as a promising sector in terms of creating jobs, increasing exports, and bringing about economic and social development, Samir said.
This eagerness serves the country’s plans for implementing mega projects, including the cultivation of the world’s largest palm farm on 2.5 million feddans in Toshki and Owainat, southern Egypt, the minister said.
Dates is a strategic crop, especially for Egypt which produces 18% and 24% of the global and Arab productions respectively.
