Mashat reviews Finance Day, Youth Day initiatives to be launched at COP27

Minister of International Cooperation Rania Al-Mashat reviewed Saturday 15/10/2022 the initiatives her ministry will launch during the Finance Day and Youth Day of the upcoming UN climate change conference (COP27) set for November 6-18 in Sharm El Sheikh.

This came during a special dialogue with a group of investors and stakeholders concerned with climate action and sustainable development goals (SDGs), hosted by the Middle East Institute as part the preparations afoot for the global climate event.

The minister talked about “Sharm El-Sheikh Guidebook for Just Financing” which aims to launch an international framework for climate action that stimulates innovative and blended finance to mobilize climate funds for developing nations and emerging economies, in coordination with bilateral and multilateral trade partners, private stakeholders and non-profit organizations and NGOs.

She also touched upon the announcement of the results of the ClimaTech Run competition launched in August to encourage tech entrepreneurs and digital artists to be involved in climate action for sustainability and a better future for all, giving special attention to participants from Africa.

Shedding light on ongoing global challenges, Minister of International Cooperation Rania Al-Mashat said the 2022 Annual Meetings of the Boards of Governors of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and the World Bank Group (WBG), hosted by Washington, D.C. on October 10-16, are held at critical times as the world is facing a food and energy price crisis, not to mention the rising finance cost.

The incoming Egyptian COP27 Presidency has identified a range of topics focused on enhancing implementation and raising ambition on broad range of issues related to climate change.

Egypt has further designated several thematic days for focused discussions, including through side events, panel discussions, round tables and other interactive formats to deliberate on and share with the wider audience.

These include: Finance Day, Adaptation and Agriculture Day, Water Day, Decarbonization Day, Science Day, Solution Day, Gender Day, Energy Day, Biodiversity Day, Youth and Future Generations Day, Ace and Civil Society Day.
