Cairo: Minister of Foreign Affairs, Emigration and Expatriates Badr Abdelatty received Lebanese Prime Minister Nawaf Salam on his first official visit to Egypt. This visit is seen as a step reflecting the historic bonds and special ties between the two nations.
According to State Information Service Egypt, Abdelatty highlighted the importance of this visit in advancing bilateral relations. He commended Salam's efforts to maintain Lebanon's security and stability and to strengthen state institutions. Both sides acknowledged the recent momentum in Egyptian-Lebanese ties and expressed their commitment to expanding cooperation, particularly in economic and trade sectors.
The leaders expressed hope for the upcoming 10th session of the Joint Higher Committee, which is scheduled to take place in Cairo later this year under the leadership of both prime ministers. Abdelatty reassured Egypt's support for Lebanon amid repeated Israeli violations of the cessation of hostilities agreement and UN Security Council Resolution 1701. He emphasized the need for the full implementation of the resolution and Israel's withdrawal from southern Lebanon.
Abdelatty called on the international community to support Lebanon's reconstruction efforts and to assist state institutions in fulfilling their responsibilities. Discussions also included regional developments, particularly the situation in Gaza. Abdelatty outlined Egypt's efforts to secure a ceasefire, the release of hostages and detainees, and the provision of humanitarian aid, reiterating Cairo's support for Palestinian rights.
The meeting underscored the strength of Egyptian-Lebanese ties and the ongoing commitment to consultation and coordination for the stability and prosperity of both countries.
