Irrigation Ministry Prioritizes Agricultural Drainage Water Reuse Expansion

Cairo: Minister of Water Resources and Irrigation Hani Sewilam announced that the Ministry is prioritizing the expansion of agricultural drainage water reuse by setting up decentralized treatment plants for agricultural drainage water along the network of agricultural drains and preparing a strategic plan for managing the salinity of this drainage water.

According to State Information Service Egypt, Sewilam made these remarks during a session of the "Egyptian-Dutch advisory council" held on the sidelines of the 8th edition of Cairo Water Week. He expressed appreciation for the Dutch collaboration in the water sector, acknowledging the longstanding cooperative relationship and constructive dialogues between Egypt and the Netherlands in water resources management.

Sewilam emphasized that the Ministry of Irrigation is focused on preparing and training its personnel to implement the objectives of the second generation of the Egyptian irrigation system (2.0). He also noted the Ministry's reliance on modern technology for water management, including the use of satellite imagery and aerial drone photography to monitor all elements of the water system efficiently.
