Irrigation min.: New Dairout project aims at distributing water to 45 sites

Irrigation Minister Mohamed Abdel Atti said Friday that a project on the construction of New Dairout Group of Regulators and Barrages aims to distribute water to 45 sites within the scope of the project.

This came during a meeting with Head of Irrigation Department El Sayyed Shalaby and Head of Horizontal Expansion and Projects Sector Fathi Radwan to follow up progress made so far to implement the New Dairout project.

The project aims to improve the irrigation process of 1.6 million feddans in five governorates: Assiut, Minya, Beni Suef, Fayyoum and Giza.

The project is part of the government’s ongoing efforts to develop Upper Egypt as part of the “Decent Life” Presidential Initiative.

The old Dariout barrages are considered one of the oldest water diversion structures worldwide, as they were constructed in 1872 and consist of seven barrages.
