Govt: No rise in fares of public transportation

The Cabinet’s media center denied reports claiming an increase in the fares and ticket prices of public transportation and privately-owned microbuses after the gasoline prices rose by 25 piasters per liter.

The center said in a statement on Friday that it has contacted the Ministry of Local Development, which dismissed such reports.

The ministry stressed that there is no increase in the fares and ticket prices of public transport, adding that campaigns will be intensified in all governorates to detect any associated violation and ensure that stickers are attached on each public transport vehicle showing the route and fare.

It also urged citizens to contact relevant authorities in case there are any violations or attempts to surge fares.

Egypt’s Fuel Automatic Pricing Committee has decided to increase the prices of gasoline by 25 piasters per liter.

The committee kept the price of diesel fuel unchanged at EGP 6.75 per liter.

As per the decision, new prices per liter were set as follows: EGP 7.50 for 80-octane gasoline, EGP 8.75 for 92-octane gasoline and EGP 9.75 for 95-octane gasoline, the committee said in a statement earlier in the day.

The decision comes into effect as of Friday.
