Sharm el sheikh: Former Assistant Foreign Minister Ambassador Mohamed Hegazy hailed on Monday, October 13, 2025, the participation of US President Donald Trump and other world leaders in the Sharm El Sheikh Peace Summit as a "historic" event that reflects appreciation of the US and the international community for Egypt's role, status, as well as its regional influence.
According to State Information Service Egypt, Hegazy stated that Egypt's efforts are always motivated by its commitment to achieving just peace and security for all peoples of the region. He emphasized that Egypt's continued efforts in cooperation with Qatar and the United States demonstrate a high-level Egyptian diplomacy that has enabled the country to achieve accomplishments that have earned the respect of the international community and the trust of all sides.
Hegazy described the Sharm El Sheikh Peace Summit as an unprecedented event that could pave the way for a comprehensive peace agreement. This agreement aims to provide the region with an integrated strategic framework for addressing conflicts in the Middle East, with the Palestinian issue at its core.
He stressed the need for a clear executive mechanism in the next phase. After the completion of the prisoner exchange process, this mechanism must include the completion of Israeli withdrawal, the ensured flow of humanitarian aid into the Gaza Strip, and the formation of a Palestinian technocratic government politically and legally linked to the Palestinian National Authority.
The process is intended to enable the Palestinian authority to assume its responsibilities in Gaza, the West Bank, and East Jerusalem, in implementation of international legitimacy resolutions. This includes the historic International Court of Justice ruling in June 2024, which confirmed that these areas constitute occupied Palestinian territories and represent the geography of the Palestinian state.
