Cairo: The Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Emigration, and Expatriate Affairs expressed gratitude for the Global Alliance of National Human Rights Institutions' (GANHRI) Sub-Committee on Accreditation (SCA) decision to preserve the National Council for Human Rights (NCHR)'s 'A' status classification.
According to State Information Service Egypt, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs confirmed in a press statement that the decision is a testament to the Council's independence, effectiveness, and continuous efforts in advancing and safeguarding human rights comprehensively. The ministry emphasized that this recognition underscores the international community's appreciation for the progress made by the Egyptian State and its national institutions in recent years under President Abdel Fattah El Sisi's leadership. This progress is aimed at strengthening the human rights system across political, economic, social, and cultural dimensions and embedding the principles of human rights, the rule of law, and citizenship to uphold the rights and dignity of Egyptian citizens.
The ministry highlighted that this decision is part of a series of successes Egypt has achieved in the human rights domain, including its election as a member of the United Nations Human Rights Council for the 2026-2028 term. This election reflects the growing respect and esteem the Egyptian State commands on the international stage. The ministry also commended President Sisi's dedication to advancing and safeguarding human rights and fundamental freedoms, a commitment embodied in the launch of the National Human Rights Strategy in 2021. This strategy provided a comprehensive action framework for all state agencies and institutions to bolster the legislative and institutional frameworks supporting human rights.
The implementation of this strategy has been monitored through regular reports, the most recent of which was the fourth report presented to President Sisi in September 2025 by the Foreign Minister, who serves as the head of the Permanent Supreme Committee for Human Rights. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs affirmed its collaboration with all relevant national bodies to execute the President's directives to commence preparations for the new National Human Rights Strategy for the next five years, thereby advancing Egypt's commitment to embedding comprehensive human rights principles and sustainable development.
