New york: Minister of Foreign Affairs, Emigration and Egyptian Expatriates, Dr. Badr Abdelatty, participated on Friday, September 26, in the coordination ministerial meeting of Foreign Ministers of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), on the sidelines of the high-level segment of the 80th session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) in New York.
According to State Information Service Egypt, in his speech, Minister Abdelatty highlighted the unprecedented threats facing the Palestinian people due to Israeli policies aimed at creating a fait accompli. He emphasized Egypt's categorical rejection and full condemnation of all attempts to displace Palestinians under any pretext. He made clear that Egypt will not be complicit in the injustice against the Palestinian people, neither through the liquidation of the Palestinian cause nor by serving as a gateway for displacement. The minister affirmed that this remains a red line that is non-negotiable. He further called for an immediate ceasefire in Gaza, Israel's withdrawal from the Strip, international support to enable the legitimate Palestinian Authority to return to Gaza, and the facilitation of humanitarian aid, in a manner that supports the implementation of the Arab-Islamic plan for reconstruction and the recovery of Gaza's residents.
The Foreign Minister also addressed a recent meeting hosted by Cairo between the Iranian Foreign Minister and the Director General of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), which culminated in an agreement on technical cooperation. This agreement aims to create conditions for a satisfactory and sustainable settlement on the Iranian nuclear file, considering the interests of all parties while fostering a climate supportive of regional security and stability. He urged OIC member states to intensify their efforts to support this goal and restore security and stability to the region.
Furthermore, the Foreign Minister reiterated Egypt's support for security and stability in Syria, condemning Israeli violations of Syrian sovereignty and stressing the necessity of Israel's withdrawal from the Golan Heights and other occupied Syrian territories, as well as all territories in southern Lebanon.
The Foreign Minister reviewed Egypt's firm stance supporting the security, stability, unity, sovereignty, and territorial integrity of Sudan. He emphasized the need to preserve and support national institutions to achieve a ceasefire and end the humanitarian suffering. He also reiterated the importance of advancing the political process in Libya to preserve Libyan ownership of the solution, facilitate presidential and parliamentary elections concurrently at the earliest possible time, and ensure the withdrawal of all foreign forces and mercenaries from Libya. Additionally, he addressed Egypt's steadfast support for the unity, independence, and territorial integrity of Yemen, affirming its backing of the legitimate government led by the Presidential Leadership Council and stressing that Yemen's stability is crucial for regional security and the security of the Red Sea.
The Foreign Minister also noted that economic and developmental challenges, as well as the significant disparities in development levels among member states, are just as critical as the political and security concerns in the region. He highlighted campaigns of 'Islamophobia,' underlining the need to enhance the role of religious and media institutions in defending the true image of Islam and countering efforts to distort it.
