FM Meets with the High Representative of EU for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy

Bled: Minister of Foreign Affairs, Emigration and Egyptian Expatriates, Dr. Badr Abdelatty, met on Monday, September 1st, with the High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Kaja Kallas, on the sidelines of the Bled Strategic Forum. The two sides discussed bilateral relations between Egypt and the European Union, as well as regional developments.According to State Information Service Egypt, Minister Abdelatty valued the strategic partnership binding Egypt and the European Union, expressing his anticipation for the convening of the first Egypt-EU Summit during the current year, which comes in the context of the momentum witnessed in relations between the two sides. He outlined the importance of maintaining the upward trajectory in bilateral relations and of enhancing cooperation in the economic, trade, and investment fields. This reflects the mutual keenness to strengthen cooperation with the European side in a manner that serves the interests of both parties.The mee ting also addressed regional developments, foremost among them the situation in the Gaza Strip. Minister Abdelatty briefed the European Official on Egypt's efforts to reach a ceasefire, secure the release of hostages and detainees, and ensure the delivery of humanitarian and relief aid, particularly in light of the catastrophic humanitarian situation in the Strip, which has reached the level of famine as a result of the intensified Israeli aggression. He also stressed the importance of the European Union taking serious and effective steps to pressure Israel to cease fire, put an end to Israel's blatant crimes, and compel it to abide by international law and international humanitarian law.He further warned of the dangers posed by the expansion of military operations in the Strip and the undermining of the establishment of the Palestinian state. In addition, Minister Abdelatty emphasized that the two-state solution and recognition of an independent Palestinian state on the June 4, 1967 lines is the sole path to achieving lasting security and stability for all the peoples of the region.Minister Abdelatty also appraised the European Official of Egypt's efforts to facilitate the entry of humanitarian aid into the Strip, highlighting in this regard the ongoing arrangements for Egypt's hosting of the International Conference on Early Recovery and Reconstruction in Gaza, immediately upon reaching a ceasefire agreement. He further highlighted the importance of active European Union engagement in the conference.The Syrian file was also discussed, with Minister Abdelatty presenting the parameters of Egypt's position, which is based on the necessity of preserving Syria's unity, territorial integrity, and the security of its people, as well as Egypt's rejection of the continued Israeli violations of Syrian sovereignty. He underscored the need to respect Syria's unity, stability, and sovereignty over its entire territory.Concerning Lebanon, Minister Abdelatty reiterated Egypt's steadfast support for the Lebanese Republ ic in light of Israel's repeated violations of the cessation of hostilities agreement, which constitute a blatant breach of international law and of United Nations Security Council Resolution 1701. Minister Abdelatty pointed to the necessity of the full and non-selective implementation of the Resolution by all parties, and of demanding that Israel fully withdraw from southern Lebanon and cease all violations of Lebanese sovereignty and assaults on its land and airspace. He reaffirmed Egypt's call on the international community to support reconstruction efforts in Lebanon.
