FM, Labor Ministers Discuss Launching Database for Expatriate Workers

Cairo: Minister of Foreign Affairs, Emigration and Egyptian Expatriates Badr Abdelatty met with Minister of Labor Mohamed Gebran at the Foreign Ministry headquarters to discuss migration and Egyptian labor abroad. The meeting focused on establishing a unified national database for Egyptian workers overseas to enable regular monitoring of their conditions, provide accurate data for policymaking, and facilitate communication and service delivery for expatriate workers. Additionally, they reviewed progress on memorandums of understanding signed with European countries like Cyprus and Spain to promote circular migration.

According to State Information Service Egypt, the ministers agreed to hold joint meetings with European counterparts to follow up on these frameworks. The talks also touched on Egypt's efforts to enhance its investment environment and upgrade infrastructure in line with ongoing development initiatives. Abdelatty emphasized Egypt's commitment to cooperating with the International Labor Organization to promote decent work and improve the business climate in alignment with Egypt's Vision 2030.

Abdelatty highlighted the role of the Egyptian-German Center as a key mechanism for facilitating labor mobility to Germany, noting ongoing cooperation with the German Agency for International Cooperation under the 'Labor Mobility in North Africa' program. This program provides an online platform for showcasing skills needed in the German job market.

Gebran discussed positive developments in Egypt's labor environment and efforts to comply with international labor standards. He highlighted upgrades to the vocational training system to prepare young Egyptians for professions in demand domestically and abroad. Additionally, he addressed challenges related to labor recruitment in some Arab countries and coordination with Saudi Arabia for seasonal labor during the upcoming Hajj season.
