Cairo: Minister of Foreign Affairs, Emigration and Egyptian Expatriates Badr Abdelatty said increasing recognition of an independent Palestinian state on the June 4, 1967 borders, with East Jerusalem as its capital, is the only path to achieving security and stability for all peoples of the region. Abdelatty made the remarks during a phone call on Saturday 13/9/2025 with UK Foreign Secretary Yvette Cooper.
According to State Information Service Egypt, Abdelatty congratulated Cooper on assuming her new position as foreign secretary and emphasized the importance of intensifying joint efforts to promote bilateral relations in the political, economic, commercial, and investment sectors to serve mutual interests. During the call, Egypt's top diplomat reviewed developments in the Gaza Strip, especially the deteriorating humanitarian situation in the war-ravaged enclave.
He reaffirmed Egypt's categorical rejection of Israel's ongoing actions, including obstruction of relief and medical aid, and displacement of Palestinian people. Abdelatty stated that the international community bears the responsibility of intervening to halt the Israeli war on Gaza and end the policy of starvation against civilians. He commended some Western countries, including the UK, for their intention to recognize the Palestinian state during the 80th session of the UN General Assembly in New York.
Abdelatty also discussed the Iranian nuclear issue, briefing his British counterpart on Egypt's efforts that led to the Cairo agreement between Iran and the International Atomic Energy Agency to resume technical cooperation. He highlighted Egypt's diplomatic efforts to deescalate tensions and facilitate negotiations between Iran and the international community, stressing the importance of diplomacy in fostering regional security and stability.
