Abuja: Minister of Foreign Affairs, Emigration and Egyptian Expatriates Badr Abdelatty held a round of talks on Monday, July 21, 2025, with Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Federal Republic of Nigeria Yusuf Tuggar in the capital Abuja.
According to State Information Service Egypt, spokesperson for the foreign ministry Tamim Khallaf said that Abdelatty praised the growing momentum in Egyptian-Nigerian relations, particularly since the third round of the Political Consultation Mechanism was held in Cairo in January 2025. This round, held for the first time at the ministerial level, reflected the shared desire to elevate bilateral relations to the level of a comprehensive partnership.
The discussions addressed ways to strengthen cooperation between Egypt and Nigeria across various political, economic, and developmental fields. Both ministers emphasized the deep-rooted historical ties and shared strategic interests between the two countries, as well as their mutual commitment to supporting development and stability efforts across the African continent.
The spokesperson added the foreign minister reviewed vistas of cooperation between the two countries, stressing the importance of building on the outcomes of the Egypt-Nigeria Business Forum held in Abuja to enhance investment and trade in several sectors. Abdelatty affirmed Egypt's commitment to further supporting various Nigerian institutions through the Egyptian Agency of Partnership for Development (EAPD), particularly in building the capacity of Nigerian professionals across different sectors.
The two ministers also discussed regional developments, including the conditions in the Sahel region, efforts to support peace and stability in West Africa, and developments in the Horn of Africa, Somalia, Sudan, and Libya. For his part, the Nigerian foreign minister praised Egypt's active role in Africa, particularly in post-conflict reconstruction and development, combating terrorism, and promoting regional integration. He expressed Nigeria's eagerness to benefit from Egypt's expertise in infrastructure, technical education, healthcare, and modern agriculture.
