Cairo: Foreign Affairs, Emigration and Expatriates Minister Badr Abdelatty held discussions with Haoliang Xu, Acting Administrator of the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), during the International High-Level Conference on a Peaceful Settlement of the Palestinian Question and Implementation of the Two-State Solution.
According to State Information Service Egypt, Abdelatty expressed his appreciation for the significant role played by UNDP in supporting Egypt's development initiatives. He acknowledged UNDP's contributions in building national capacities and advancing Egypt's progress towards achieving the Sustainable Development Goals. UNDP's involvement is seen as a crucial component of Egypt's Vision 2030 and its efforts to tackle economic challenges.
The minister emphasized Egypt's commitment to strengthening cooperation with UNDP in areas of mutual interest, both bilaterally and through multilateral partnerships, to support development and regional stability.
The conversation also covered the situation in Gaza, where Abdelatty highlighted Egypt's efforts to secure a ceasefire and ensure the delivery of humanitarian aid to Palestinians. He reiterated Egypt's opposition to any attempts to forcibly displace Palestinians from their homeland.
Coordination efforts between Egypt, Qatar, and the United States to address the humanitarian crisis in Gaza were also discussed. The minister reviewed preparations for an international conference aimed at Gaza's early recovery and reconstruction, emphasizing the need for regional and international support to rebuild infrastructure. He stressed the importance of addressing the root causes of the Palestinian-Israeli conflict to secure Palestinians' legitimate rights, including self-determination and the establishment of an independent state.
Haoliang Xu praised the cooperation between UNDP and Egypt and commended Egypt's efforts to promote security and stability in the region.
