FM Calls on Germany and EU to Pressure Israel on Compliance with International Law

Port sudan: Minister of Foreign Affairs, Emigration and Egyptian Expatriates Badr Abdelatty urged Germany and the European Union to continue exerting pressure on Israel to compel it to abide by international law and international humanitarian law. The call came during Abdelatty’s meeting with German State Minister at the Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development Niels Annen, on the sidelines of the Munich Leaders Meeting (MLM) held in AlUla.

According to State Information Service Egypt, the foreign minister warned of the dangers posed by Israel’s settlement policies and the expansion of military operations, which aim to undermine the establishment of a Palestinian state and displace the population of Gaza, a course of action Egypt firmly rejects. Abdelatty praised the depth of Egyptian-German relations in various fields, noting that Germany is one of Egypt’s key development partners.

He expressed Egypt’s aspiration to further deepen this partnership, particularly in energy, labor mobility, and vocational training, expressing appreciation for ongoing cooperation with Germany in the field of labor mobility. He also welcomed a recent agreement reached with the German state of Bavaria in this regard. The talks also covered avenues of cooperation in Africa.

Abdelatty expressed interest in Germany’s participation in the upcoming Aswan Forum, scheduled to be held later this month. He stressed the importance of enhancing joint cooperation on the continent by using all available tools, including through the Cairo International Center for Conflict Resolution, Peacekeeping and Peace building (CCCPA), which organizes workshops and training programs for African cadres in the fields of peacekeeping and peace building.

The meeting also touched on the situation in Gaza, with the minister warning of the severe humanitarian crisis in the Strip, which has reached the brink of famine due to Israel’s ongoing aggression. He stressed the urgent need for concerted regional and international efforts to bring the war to an end.
