FM Briefs Norwegian Official on Egyptian Efforts to Stop War in Gaza

Cairo: Minister of Foreign Affairs, Emigration and Egyptian Expatriates Badr Abdelatty briefed Norwegian Minister of International Development €¦smund Aukrust on the latest developments in Egypt's ongoing efforts to stop the war in the Gaza Strip, as well as the consultations currently hosted by Egypt in the City of Peace, Sharm El-Sheikh.

According to State Information Service Egypt, Abdelatty's remarks came at a meeting with the Norwegian official on Wednesday, October 8, 2025, where they discussed ways to strengthen bilateral relations between Egypt and Norway and explored prospects for cooperation across various fields. The two ministers addressed developments in the Gaza Strip and the Palestinian cause.

Abdelatty praised Norway's supportive stance toward the Palestinian cause and the legitimate rights of the Palestinian people, as well as its defense of the principles of international law. Abdelatty welcomed the growing level of relations between the two countries, commending the ongoing economic cooperation, particularly in the field of new and renewable energy.

He pointed out to the prominent role of the Norwegian company "Scatec" in implementing energy projects in Egypt, affirming Egypt's full support for the company's projects, which contribute to strengthening trade and investment relations between the two countries. He also expressed hope for the continued implementation of the company's projects and efforts to localize industry in Egypt.

The foreign minister stressed the importance of encouraging the Norwegian Agency for Development Cooperation to finance development projects in Egypt, particularly in the fields of clean energy and aquaculture. He reviewed the recent economic and financial reforms undertaken by Egypt, which enhance opportunities for attracting Norwegian investments, and emphasized the importance of boosting trade cooperation between the two countries.

In the context of regional cooperation, the two ministers discussed opportunities for trilateral cooperation in Africa, in light of Norway's increasing interest in the continent and its issuance of a dedicated Africa strategy in August. He also expressed Egypt's aspiration for Norway to participate in the upcoming Aswan Forum for Sustainable Peace and Development, scheduled to be held on October 19-20, which serves as an important platform for strengthening partnerships between African nations and development partners.
