Finance Minister meets with Indian ambassador

Finance Minister Mohamed Maait said on Sunday 1/1/2022 that the business-friendly environment in Egypt has helped attract more foreign and local investments.

Egypt is offering promising investment opportunities that could help empower the private sector and increase its contribution to the development process, the minister said in a meeting with Ajit Gupte, the Indian Ambassador in Cairo, earlier in the day.

This, he added, comes as part of state effort to boost potentials of the Egyptian economy and achieve sustainable growth rates.

Cairo is keen on enhancing cooperation and exchanging expertise with New Delhi, especially where financial policies are concerned, Maait expressed.

The minister said that Egypt is also expecting Indian support for two initiatives to “reduce the cost of green borrowing” and “establish a sustainable debt alliance”; both of which were launched on the fringe of the recent international climate summit in Sharm el Sheikh, COP27.

Gupte, for his part, said Indian companies are considered among big foreign investors in Egypt, which, he added, has a huge market with all factors of development.

He told Maait his country is seeking to boost cooperation with Egypt in all fields, particularly the economy.
