Egypt’s Election Authority to Announce Senate Election Results

Cairo: Egypt's National Election Authority (NEA) will announce the results of the 2025 Senate election in a press conference on Tuesday, August 12, 2025, at 6:30pm local time (1630 GMT). The election, held on 4-5 August domestically and 1-2 August for expatriates, represents the second Senate polls since the chamber's reinstatement following a 2019 constitutional referendum.

According to State Information Service Egypt, voting took place across 8,286 domestic polling stations and 136 stations in 117 countries, under full judicial supervision and heightened security measures. A total of 428 candidates vied for individual seats, consisting of 186 independents and 242 from political parties. The National Unified List (NUL) was the sole contender for list-based seats, and under election rules, single-candidate lists like the NUL must secure at least 5 percent of registered votes to win.

If no candidate or list secures an absolute majority in a constituency, a runoff will be held between the top two contenders. Appeals against the NEA's results must be filed within 48 hours of the announcement, with a final deadline of 14 August. The Supreme Administrative Court will adjudicate appeals between 15-24 August, after which an electoral silence period for the runoff begins. Expatriate runoff voting is scheduled for 25-26 August, followed by domestic runoff voting on 27-28 August. Final results will be announced on 4 September.

The 300-member Senate, an advisory body to the House of Representatives, comprises 200 elected members and 100 presidential appointees.
