Egypt’s El-Wazir Inspects Key Factories in Obour Industrial Zone

Obour city: Minister of Industry and Transport Kamel El-Wazir embarked on an inspection tour of three significant factories located in the Obour Industrial City, Qalyubia Governorate. The tour focused on facilities within the food, building materials, and metal industries, reflecting the minister's commitment to boosting local production capacities and export potential.

According to State Information Service Egypt, the first stop of the tour was at Obour Land for Food Industries. This facility spans 35,000 square meters and boasts a substantial annual production capacity, including 170,000 tons of cheese, 70,000 tons of sterilized milk, and 50 million litres of juice. Employing over 2,500 workers, it exports to more than 33 countries, with $20 million in exports recorded in 2024. The minister emphasized the importance of quality assurance in raw materials and equipment, urging the company to enhance white cheese production to better serve local demands.

The second destination was Ceramica Royal, a 70,000-square-meter facility that produces 15 million square metres of ceramic and porcelain tiles annually. These products are exported to Europe, the Middle East, and the US, and the facility employs 1,665 workers. El-Wazir reviewed the production processes and highlighted the factory's unique capability of producing thick porcelain tiles and large-format glazed porcelain tiles. He also underscored the government's dedication to supporting domestic industries against dumping practices.

El-Wazir concluded his tour at El Obour Metallurgical Industries, part of the Kandil Steel Group. This 46,300-square-meter plant has total group investments of EGP3 billion and produces 900,000 tons of various steel coils annually, with exports reaching the Middle East, Africa, Europe, and the US. The minister inspected the production lines and emphasized the importance of developing skilled workers to sustain industrial expertise and enhance export capabilities.

Throughout the visits, El-Wazir reiterated the critical role of skilled labor in driving industrial progress and pledged ongoing support for local industry initiatives.
