Manila: Egypt's Ambassador in Manila, Nader Zaki, recently met with Maria Theresa Lazaro, the Secretary of Foreign Affairs of the Philippines, to discuss several key aspects of the growing relationship between their countries.
According to State Information Service Egypt, Lazaro expressed the Philippines' appreciation for Egypt's crucial role in maintaining stability in the Middle East, particularly acknowledging the positive outcomes from the Sharm El-Sheikh Peace Summit. The meeting underscored the Philippines' support for enhancing Egypt's relations with the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN), which the Philippines is slated to chair next year.
The discussion highlighted the robust political ties shared by Egypt and the Philippines, a friendship that has spanned nearly eight decades. The Philippine Foreign Minister emphasized her country's intent to elevate political consultations with Egypt, viewing it as a potential pivotal moment in their bilateral relations. Both parties reiterated the importance of supporting each other's candidates in international forums.
Trade exchange was another focal point of the meeting. Ambassador Zaki showcased ongoing efforts to boost cooperation in agricultural exports. This follows the coordinated efforts between the Egyptian and Philippine Ministries of Agriculture, resulting in the approval of new Egyptian agricultural products for the Philippine market. Zaki also emphasized the significance of establishing the first Egypt-Philippines Business Council to bolster economic ties.
Lastly, the ambassador noted the progress in cultural and religious relations, highlighting collaborations between Egypt's Ministry of Awqaf and the Philippine government. These efforts include training, technical collaboration, and the exchange of expertise, further strengthening the bonds between the two nations.
